Shadow Puppetry &
Projections
Zane Exactly (they/them) is a non-binary puppeteer, theatre maker and visual artist with a BFA in sculpture and printmaking. Their background in visual arts has led to them to working primarily in puppetry arts, where they have worked as a puppet builder and performer for nearly a decade. Recent projects have included: shadow puppetry; projection design; puppet design and fabrication; set and prop design; mask design; miniature fabrication; and performer. Zane has worked with numerous Seattle theatre companies in a variety of roles and has been involved in nearly 2 dozen puppet slams in the Seattle/Portland area. They have also worked for Thistle Theatre, a local Bunraku puppet theatre company, since 2013 as a puppeteer, repair person, and show builder. They are thrilled to be working on their 18th show with Thistle Theatre, as well as performing as "Possum" in "Look, Listen and Learn," a local Children's YouTube series. They collect projectors and magic lanterns in their spare time. Cassandra Bray (she/they) is a multidisciplinary theatre artist, shadow puppeteer and poet with a BA in Theatre. Their work explores trauma, healing and queer identity through a lens of poetic surrealism, and often incorporates their fascination with gels, gobos and textural lighting. Recent projects include: Giant Woman (Shadow Puppeteer/Silhouette Performer), RESHAPE: An Immersive Art Installation (Lighting Designer, Performer), Boxcar Kingdom (Playwright, "Joe"), Bird-Watching (Shadow Puppeteer and Puppet Builder), and Endgame ("Hamm"). Cassandra and Zane are thrilled to be performing their shadow piece, "Giant Woman," at the 2019 National Puppetry Festival in the National Slam! They are also looking forward to working on Seattle playwright, Amy Escobar's new play, We Go Mad (Lighting Designer, Shadow Puppeteer). We Go Mad open September 20th at 18th & Union, and will be a delicious concoction of: Bunraku puppetry, shadow puppetry, eerie movement and vocalization, textural lighting design, and an all womxn cast!
